Brève description / annotation

Since its creation at the time of the French Revolution, and thanks to the first persons responsible for the Library, the French Assembly gathers exceptional pieces and documents that can be linked to its history, or that have arrived here thanks to the gifts of collectors or thanks to purchases at the 19 or 20th centuries. The library is private and there is no access to the public, excepted during the local heritage days, and the major part of its treasures are kept in a strong room because of their inestimable value. This book is the occasion to introduce them to the public. Among them are exceptional documents that testify great moments of the French Revolution : the text of the anthem La Marseillaise written by Rouget de Lisle, the sentence to death of the king Louis XVI (and the accusations and signatures of each actor of this decision), the oath of the Jeu de Paume... But also the minutes of Joan of Arc's process, an Aztec codex said «borbonicus» - the most extraordinary of those that still exist in the world - the manuscript of the Confessions of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the Roman de la Rose, the description of Egypt in 23 volumes - the result of the work of the experts who have accompanied Bonaparte in his expedition - and far more pieces just as rare.
