This moving picture of a romantic passion between two teenagers in a religious college was first published in Lyon in 1876. It is the archetype of a long series of novels whose central theme is special friendships. Its author, Louis Beysson, was twenty years old when he published this short story, republished eight years later as a novel by E. Dentu (Paris).
