From the first manifestations of writing, around 3150 BC, until the arrival of Arabic writing, many scripts were used in ancient Egypt. The purpose of this guide is to explain the main principles of use, to present the diversity of their manifestations in time and space, and to describe the main contexts of utilisation. If the hieroglyphs quite obviously take the lion's share, it is all the richness of the different writings that were used on the land of the pharaohs that is exposed here.
